A bird, sharp grey bill,
Crack a hole to pull the worm
out, trees’ good doctor.
.
Up in the thin air,
It’s feet hooked tight and fair,
Doing the tree care.
.
One peck at a time,
Woodpecker’s mouth does the rhyme,
what rewarding crime.
Some people think the woodpecker does damage to the tree,
Perhaps they do not see,
the worm digging into the delicate heart,
but if the woodpecker does his part,
the tree will survive,
and perhaps thrive.
Some people think being honest does damage to their friends,
Perhaps they don’t comprehend,
the lies that have dug into the heart,
but if truth does its part,
their friend will survive,
perhaps even thrive.
